Project type: All projects are made from recycled materials. Project options are listed below. Some have additional costs due to extra preparation or materials required. Educators are welcome to discuss with me a different project type that suits other learning outcomes
What to expect: Each workshop is divided into 2 sessions:
Session 1: Educational session on the mat where we learn all about trees, wood, timber, how to tell the age of wood and how we can all practice sustainability. Short videos about my workshop, landfill and timber milling are shown.
Session 2: We dive into the woodworking! Children move through different stages of preparing to drill, marking timber, simple measurement, using the drill (under close supervision) using a hammer/nails/screws/bolts/nuts sanding, glueing and decorating.
Each child receives a letter to take home showing where the timber and materials have come from.

What to expect:
All workshops are broken into 2 sessions.
Week 1:
Educational session: Introduction to
woodworking, learning all about trees, feeling some physical examples of wood
and timber, discussing landfill and ways we can reduce our environmental impact
Woodworking session: Working on basic
measuring, marking timber for drilling with hammer and screwdriver,
experimenting with different types of handles, sanding, glueing
Week 2:
Educational session: Learning about
Recycling. Video showing where our recycling goes, different options for
recycling, and the importance of reusing before recycling.
Woodworking session: Working on accurate marking, drilling, using fasteners, and knot tying
Week 3:
Educational
session: Green waste, where does it go, composting and how it creates a sustainable loop. A video showing what happens to our green waste.
Woodworking session: Working on measuring, drilling with bases, sanding, glueing
Week 4:
Educational session: Empathy, discussion about showing empathy to ourselves, our friends and our environment
Woodworking session: More complicated project, using fasteners, hammering with nails.
